Rádio Carandá FM is a community broadcaster of the Montes Claros de Goiás Communication and Culture Association (ASCOM).The entity that maintains the radio was founded in 1998, through the efforts of people from the community of Montes Claros, represented by the then president of the Rural Union, Lassir Teixeira. The station went on air for the first time in February 1998 and remained on the air for a few months, as there was still no grant from Organs competent bodies. After accusations from a commercial radio representative in a neighboring town, about 60 kilometers away, the community radio station in Montes Claros was visited by agents of repression from Anatel, who seized all the stations equipment, taking the radio off the air.Rádio Carandá FM returned to the air three years later, when the station received authorization from Organs competent bodies to operate. It was inaugurated on October 23, 2001 by the associations founders, Lassir Teixeira, Ricardo Alves do Nascimento, Odantes Martins, Agnaldo Teles de Oliveira, Sebastião Ribeiro de Souza, Leonésio Peres Leite, Núbia de Fátima Silva Duarte and other ASCOM members. The inauguration of Rádio Carandá FM was attended by the then mayor Lázaro Jacinto, other local political and ecclesiastical authorities, representatives of associations and unions, as well as the radios team of communicators and employees.
